To promote reading by providing free books and positive role models to kids in need while encouraging young athletes of the community to pay it forward.
2nd & 7 was founded in 1999 by three former OSU football players – Luke Fickell, Ryan Miller and Mike Vrabel - who wanted to continue to give back to their community. Since 1999, 2nd & 7 has given away over 750,000 books to kids in need all across the country.
The 'Tackling Illiteracy' reading program began in central Ohio in 1999 but is now being implemented in communities all over the nation. As a part of this program, college or high school student-athletes visit 2nd graders in local elementary schools to read to them, talk about the importance of their education and give every child a free book to take home. The books are written by 2nd & 7 and each title contains positive life lessons such as teamwork, healthy choices, good sportsmanship and kindness is contagious.
